Budget Constraints may impact on Recycling Services in Taunton Deane Councillor Mark Edwards said, “I am still deeply concerned that amongst the three trial options being considered is to change the collection of all recyclable items to fortnightly to counter the additional costs of adding plastics and cardboard items to the service”…..“The Council has a significant budget gap and cuts in services seem inevitable so the additional cost of adding plastics and cardboard to the recycling service will come under massive pressure and I am therefore concerned that the Liberal Democrat Executive running the Council will take the low cost option which would be massively detrimental to the service.” |

Concern Expressed about possible down grading of recycling service in Taunton & Wellington Councillor Mark Edwards, who was responsible for the introduction of the present recycling service in Taunton, is today highlighting concerns, he has, about changes that are being considered to the recycling service in Taunton and Wellington. UKHO Employees secure in knowledge they will remain in Taunton The tremendous news announced yesterday that the UK Hydrographic Office is to remain in Taunton will come as a huge relief to employees and the community.
This has been hanging over the employees and their families for years and it is good and only right that this uncertainty has been ended by the Government. This now allows the UKHO to move forward with certainty and plan their future in Taunton. Residents of Trull & Comeytrowe Alarmed by Housing Threat Councillor Mark Edwards has met with residents of Comeytrowe Road who are extremely concerned about the development being considered for eighty homes on the fields adjoining Trull and Comeytrowe.
Councillor Edwards said, “The residents are very greatly concerned about this development and although the meeting was a last minute decision and only an hour’s notice given, over fifty residents turned up. That proves beyond doubt the concern that is felt in the area”... more |

Councillor Mark Edwards has expressed his deep concern over plans for a major affordable housing development off Comeytrowe Road. The development of eighty houses has been proposed for a green field site on the edge of the village of Trull which adjoins the fields leading to Comeytrowe.
“I was truly surprised to be informed of plans to develop this land on the edge of Trull. It is part of the greenbelt and I have always believed should be protected land that helped Trull with its aim of retaining its village status albeit on the edge of the town. … more |

Grave concern over plans to rationalise Post Offices in the Taunton Area
The Shadow Executive Councillor for Corporate Resources at Taunton Deane Borough Council, Councillor Terry Hall has expressed his grave concerns after being briefed on plans to rationalise the Post Offices in the region.
The rationalisation is as a result of the Post Office losing £4m per week and is required by the Government to get into profit by 2011. The Government have agreed funding of £1.7b over the next five years during which the restructuring will take place. The Post Office has introduced numerous new services over the last few years however this has failed to turn around their losses. … more |

Tenants’ anger at Council giving nearly £1.5 million of their money to the Treasury The Council is struggling to keep up with maintenance and general improvements to its houses. Liberal Democrat run Taunton Deane Borough Council have had to hand over £1,495,000 in housing subsidy over the last three months to the Government. We would have happily worked with the Independents to continue running the Council but this has proven impossible.
