John Thorne works with his wife Julia in their own PR business at home in Wellington, where they have a nearly-two-year-old son, George. He has three grown-up children from his first marriage.
He is a journalist by profession and was a newspaper editor before leaving the industry to spend two years working for a Home Office agency recruiting the over-50s into voluntary sector roles, after which he moved into PR.
John has previously served as an Independent town councillor, is a past Chamber of Commerce chairman, reflecting his experience in business, which included running publishing companies, music retailing, and the cinema in Wellington, and for 10 years he was a Somerset Football Association Council member.
He was recently appointed to Somerset County Council’s Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee, and he also serves on the executive of the Somerset Patient and Public Involvement Forum, which is a watchdog for NHS services in Taunton Deane.
Much of John’s journalism career over the past 20 years has involved working in and around Exmoor, where he has experienced many of the rural community issues which are currently mirrored on the Blackdown Hills.
John is planning a monthly internet-based surgery where constituents who are unable to meet him in person can raise issues. |
