I was born and brought up in West Hatch. I spent 23 years away from Taunton working for an international construction company before returning to Taunton in 1987 to set up my own construction business. Living and working in such places as Abu Dhabi, Nigeria and Cairo was a fascinating experience and, although difficult in some respects, it provided me with an invaluable insight and knowledge into the societies of different nations.
I am pleased to have been your District Councillor since 1991 and also Leader of the Council from 2003—2007.
I am committed to ensuring the Council’s future policies and initiatives minimise the impact on the environment. We owe this to our children, their children and to generations to come. We just cannot afford to fail—the consequences are unthinkable.
John’s aims are to:
· Ensure the wonderful countryside we all enjoy is protected from unsuitable development. · Continue the close working relationship I enjoy with your Parish Councils · Press for measures to restrict heavy traffic on the road to Neroche through Staple Fitzpaine. The road is as bad as the one above Corfe and needs protecting. · Be responsive to the needs of residents in Neroche · Ensure we support the Blackdown Hills project where every £1 invested has brought in a grant of £38 – nearly £2 million in total · Ensure the A358 is upgraded with minimum long-term effect on residents · Continue our efforts to deliver better services for less tax as I recognise how important this is for pensioners and those on low incomes.
