Affordable Housing

I recently wrote to Postbag at Somerset County Gazette about the lack of affordable housing in Taunton.

Born in Taunton, Dave has lived in Creech  since 1981.  He is a self employed builder, with 3 children and 7 grand children.

Dave has been a member Creech Parish Council and was elected to the Deane in 2003.  He is Chairman of the Somerset Playing Fields Association, Chairman of Somerset Waterways Development Trust and on the Board of Tone Leisure and the Home Furniture Trust.

Dave feels that he has contributed to making Ruishton & Creech a more environmentally friendly place to live in.

Gwyneth has lived in Creech St Michael for nearly 20 years and was a Parish Councillor in Creech for 14 years.  She  believes passionately that villages should be vibrant places in which to live and work.

Gwyneth built the first web site for Creech St Michael which has just been re-launched by Somerset Web Services

Gwyneth worked with the owners of the village store to save the Post Office and campaigned to get wireless broadband in Ruishton & Creech St Michael  to homes that could not be served by BT.  She has worked with local people and the police to prevent fly-tipping and to improve the village’s environment to help combat vandalism and crime within the Ward.

Gwyneth was elected to Taunton Deane Borough Council in 2003 and served as Executive Councillor for Communications, and is currently Vice Chairman of the Review Board. She is also a member of the Parrett Internal Drainage Board and has taken an active role in flood prevention for many years.

Gwyneth would like to see kerbside plastic and cardboard recycling in Taunton Deane, as an extension to the very popular SORT IT recycling service.

Dave’s and Gwyneth’s objectives are :

· Support affordable housing schemes for young people

· Keep the Council Tax increases to the rate of inflation or preferably lower

· Support the Local Action Team to fight crime with more Police and PCSO presence in our villages

· Improve the canals, footpaths and cycle ways via a Lottery bid

· Support the Flood Committees in what is a real problem for the area

· Press Somerset County Council for genuine consultation with  residents over the Park & Ride site off the A358

· Oppose development in Creech & Ruishton where residents are against it

· Support the dualling of the A358 to ease congestion and pollution at Henlade

· Encourage the County Council to improve road safety at Adsborough
