Affordable Housing—letter from Post Bag—Somerset County Gazette

FURTHER to the comments made by Cllr Henley in last week's Gazette, now he is Leader of Taunton Deane, can tell us where he is going to build affordable homes in Wellington and Taunton to meet the ever increasing demand for a decent and affordable home?

There are over 600 people in Wellington looking for homes such as those planned for the Priory in Wellington. Last year the council carried out consultation with local residents and which resulted in a modification of the schemes to try and provide these desperately needed homes whilst at the same time dealing with residents concerns.

We have known for ages that the shortage of land and high land prices are pushing up the cost of houses all the time, it is cruel and heartless of Cllr Henley to deny families the opportunity of finding a home at a reasonable price just because it is in his ward. How NIMBY can you get, or did he just promise a review to get elected? Come on Ross, it is time to consider the bigger picture, not just part of Wellington. Start acting like a leader of a council that exists to serve everyone in the Deane - there are more than 3000 people on the housing waiting list waiting for your suggestions as to where homes can be built.
