CONSERVATIVE CALL FOR URGENT PLASTIC AND CARDBOARD

KERBSIDE COLLECTION FOR TAUNTON DEANE

Taunton Deane Conservatives call for plastic and cardboard kerbside recycling.

The introduction of the Kerbside collection of plastics and cardboard is being urgently called for by Councillor Mark Edwards, the man who was responsible for the introduction of the present recycling service in Taunton.

The rate is now nudging 50% for the kerbside and composting recycling, a result that the previous Conservative administration highlights as a key success of its administration during the last four years.

Cllr Edwards has recently been appointed Chairman of the Health and Leisure Scrutiny panel at Taunton Deane Borough Council and he expects answers.

He said, “I made it clear when I introduced the “Sort It” recycling services in Taunton that the service that I was offering was future proof and that the recycling collection of plastics and cardboard was the next introduction. I am very proud of the system that I introduced and it has led to Taunton Deane having amongst the most successful recycling rates in the entire country at 50%.”

“I have recently been appointed the Chairman of the Health and Leisure review board and I am asking for a detailed report on the timing for the introduction of kerbside collection for plastics and cardboard and I expect a firm commitment from the Liberal Democrat run authority as to when we can expect this to happen.”

“I am fully conversant with the system, its needs and constraints so they will not be able to pull the wool over my eyes. I will be looking for answers and a clear indication of when and where we will see this enhancement to our service. I want more than just words from the Liberal Democrats. I want and the public expect action”.

“The people of Taunton have clearly embraced the service and appreciate its environmental importance and should be encouraged to do more. I want them to be given that chance. I acted before to make sure this service was introduced and it has proved to be very popular and successful. I will do the same again and I will not let up until I see this introduced.”
